Our small Cross Country flight
Man! Today was a real good day. Everywhere thermals poped up the gliders. Shortly before noon the thermals turned into monsters: Rising up to 1500m (and probably more) above GND. I was flying an old Airea Aspect and with this wing I was the slowest and couldn't go far from Guisa. Anyway an amazing experience man. Flying with the vario shouting like there is no tomorrow. I went
almost deaf because of the high pitch. Need to adjust this. It is a real pitty that I was the only one with a tracking device, while the others flew perfectly well: El chino crossed all over the river dam in front of Corralillo, trying to reach "El Bolo". Later he returned to the Main road near Santa Rita. El conejo could make it to the junction of Guisa. Chavez and Pupito
took the same route and returned to the town in order to close a triangle. Really, a real good and amazing flying. I was crying in the air for a better wing, like a Targa: Buhuhuhuaaaaa

Un poco de historia: En delta desde La Gran Piedra
Comparto con ustedes un poco de historia sobre vuelo libre en Cuba.
Son algunas fotos de un vuelo desde La Gran Piedra que hicieron dos pilotos canadienses en el año 1992 ó 94. Sus nombres: Normand (quien nos visita y facilitó las fotos) y Francois.
Disfruten las fotos. Son pura historia.
1- Llos preparativos para el despegue en lo alto de la Piedra. Vista al este donde se puede ver el radar meteo. Altura 1264 msnm.
2- El despegue se hizo desde lo alto de la piedra y es de tipo acantilado. Tuvieron que irse al aire picando completamente el ala porque no había nada de viento. El espacio es muy reducido y hay que salir hacia la parte de afuera de las barandas de contención. El ala es una Ultralite de UP con marco de carbón.
3- Francois comenzando el vuelo. El aterrizaje más cercano a unos 8 km. (en el lomo de la izquierda de la foto se ha previsto una probable área de despegue para parapente)
4- La foto que muchos queremos hacer. Observar el ala sobre la Piedra.
5- Abundancia de aterrizajes...
