Fifth Report

 

And finally the 5^th Friendly Gathering comes to its end. After the inconveniences caused by the hour change, at 10:00 in the morning, with one hour of delay according to the program, it carried out a Spartan act of awards in the called Olympic Hall of the Sportive Hotel.

The Laminar Club, from Habana, obtained the first place fallowed it by the Club Vuelo Santiago and the third place was for the Club Alas from Bayamo, Granma. The individual places were for the member of the Laminar’s “The Animal” Carlos Pons Ledesma in the first place. The second place was conquered by “El Chino” Gerardo Ramos Salgado of the Club Alas from Bayamo and the third place was for Daniil Prusakov Martínez member of the host club of the 5^th Edition of this event. After the awards act, in another close area but inside the hotel, it carried out the delivery of the donatives with the presence of a foreigner pilots group that they have contributed in important way in the management of this equipments. The activity that extended for more than an hour due to the great material for deliver, was leaded by Ernesto and Chris.

4th EA5

Fourth Report

 

            Today at last it could carried out a valid test: the inflated races. This one defines the result of this 5^th Friendly Gathering, because the meteo made that the time estimation test was suspended again, as well as the precision launching delayed for today afternoon.

At first time in the morning the pilots moved out on foot until the near Revolution Square. After wait for a while the arrived of the foreigners visitors, including the organizers, Ernesto and Chris. The briefing of the test was made and finally the races started. The northeast wind was blow strong making hard the canopy control, for that reason we must stop in several times waiting that the wind start to low down, and in some other times there was to wait because the wind was turn to the north. About 2:00 p.m. the race was over and some hopeful pilots decided to climb up again to the fly zone.

At 6:30 in the afternoon, we made for food in the ranch Sabana-Ingenio, located in El Caney. Tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. it will be make the awards and at 1:00 p.m. we are going to fly by our own account if the weather allows us.

Third Report.

 

Today at 9:30 a.m. with punctuality we made the official inauguration and we climb up again to the fly zone according to the event’s program. Nothing it could be made because the north wind hasn’t give truce. The sea breeze tried to get again the Port of Boniato but it only stayed at half road. In the cost and the city blew a southeast wind but it left stock in a confluence line some kilometres before the fly zone, that it was denounce by a street of convective clouds very bad armed. In front of such view we decide to retry before the programmed schedule to develop with a better range of time the programmed meeting or assembly of the F.C.V.L.

Tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. we will located in the Revolution Square making the inflated  races an then, around mid day, we are going to the charge in the attempt to make the frustrated test of today. At night time we’ll have fellowship meal.

2nd EA5

Second Report.

 

Yesterday day was a completely disaster. It began to bad due to a coordination miss between the companions of the province INDER and the Security Officer on charged of the subject of the foreigners pilots presence. Fortunately all the matter was clear, but only after a long wait of  two and a half hour respecting the departure time to the fly zone.

It still miss to know if the CAC Direction communicated with accuracy to the National INDER Direction the information about the planning of the foreigner pilots presence. In fact, the detail had much strength in the problem. This forum, at who is precisely registered the CAC to make the information flow more easily, is witness in the message number 4109 on Tuesday, February 22th, sent by the organizer Ernesto. (I put add copy of that message).

For its part, the meteo want to make no less and it gives us hard north wind all day long. The sea breeze of Santiago made as much it could, but the most it could make was stop for some minutes the tale wind during the take offs, and blow a gentle weak breeze like to make departure with zero wind. At that time the pilots were barely preparing their equipments. Some moments later the north wind appeared to me make its will, and then, we could do nothing no longer. Some ultra-optimists and hyper-hopefuls pilots of province refused the situation while they were delaying in pick up again their equipments to return to the city.

Today, at 9:30 a.m. we officially inaugurate the event, and at 11:00 we are going to the fly zone in an attempt to determinate the stage of time estimation and precision launching. The meteo prevention is bad, perhaps equal like yesterday, so that, if we can’t do the planning for today, we probably make the attempt tomorrow afternoon. For tomorrow morning it’s been agree to make the inflated race, that we can make practically with or without the wind presence and in any direction.

1st EA5

First Report

 

There’re already in Santiago the most part of the pilots of all the country that they will participate in the 5^th Friendship Gathering. Happily the mate’s of The INDER that support us, they’ve measured a grater quota lodgement capacities in the Sportive Hotel to us, and thanks to that, we can receive until 40 pilots of provinces, so we hope it be enough.

To many pilots from Pinar, La Isla, Habana, Camagüey, Las Tunas, Holguín, Granma and Guantánamo club’s have arrived. Yesterday midnight it still miss a good part of the Laminares for arrive, dilated in Habana Airport. The guys of Ciego and Las Villas haven’t came yet. Two Russian pilots have united to us because they heard of our event in the web. Tomorrow Friday in the mourning it should be come the biggest part of the foreigners pilots who reported its participation.

Yesterday after establish the first guesses and left directed some organization details we climb up to Boniato Harbor (Puerto Boniato) to warm engines. At last the day looks well after several days completely bads where was even possible to take off because the northern winds.

The conditions get better although with a middling roof and the sea breeze came to the mountain top about one o’clock of the afternoon. From that moment ahead the first take off began and few seconds later Boniato sky was full of Gliders. Zero turbulence, some shy thermals and soft and floating conditions.

About 20 gliders flew that day.

 

Today we shall climb up to the mountain at 12 noon to make the schedule fly to Melarejo, El Cobre. The plan is to make cross fly there and back again. A splendid and emotive trip of almost 40 Km over all Boniato’s range. I hope that many of us can make it and let the photos and GPS‘s tracks supported.

Mejoras en campo de aterrizaje de Boniato

Ya empiezan a salir los dolores musculares a causa de la pincha dura pero contentos podemos anunciar que por fin hemos quitado la línea de cables eléctricos que atravesaban nuestro campo de aterrizaje de Boniato.

Dicha, línea de 220 V, aunque relativamente endeble mecánicamente y de baja altura (es una "tendedera") constituía un peligroso obstáculo que complicaba mucho la maniobra de aproximación final.

Cuando las condiciones son térmicas y turbulentas, debido al peligro de colisión con los cables o peor, con sus postes, se tormaba a veces muy peligroso entrar al campo a tal punto que, buscando mayor seguridad, a menudo elegíamos aterrizar en los campos más alejados hacia el este. Todavía quedan detalles que mejorar que luego resolveremos.

Por lo pronto, estos días en tierra y sin permiso de vuelo, los consideramos los más productivos ya que ha sido un viejo sueño poder hacer esta mejora técnica a nuestro aterrizaje oficial.

Les envio algunas fotos de la actividad y un gráfico hecho con foto satelital que muestra como es que ha quedado el trazado actual de la línea eléctrica.

También se muestra la disposición de las cercas internas que dividen el campo en dos "pistas" (para los trabajadores de la vaquería son "cuartones").

Vuelo Boniato-El Caney

Calentico, acabado de sacar del horno va este track y algunas fotos de un vuelo que Javier (Olivares) y yo hicimos hoy. Es poca cosa si se mira el kilometraje pero es un gran vuelo por lo extremadamenmte dificil que resulta. Otras veces lo hemos mencionado: se trata de la ruta de Puerto Boniato hacia la coordillera de la Gran Piedra que tiene como "primera escala técnica" las lomas del Caney y su lindo valle. Es un tramo que se hace con el viento completamente enfrentado por lo que el rendimiento de las alas decae enormemente al punto que sólo es posible salvarlo a base de volar en condiciones muy fuertes con actividad térmica de la buena. Pues hoy las logramos cazar luego de muchos días de condiciones mediocres en Santiago.

   Nunca habíamos alcanzado más de 1500 msnm (registrados) en Boniato. La
   turbulencia era demencial pero se subía y de qué manera!
   Esta es otra de las mangas probables de compe en Santiago, así que ya
   saben... a soldados avisa´os...

   El vuelo sirvió para probar "de verdad" la Swing Astral-3 y la Freex Arcane que llegaron a nuestro club gracias a la donación de Liechtenstein y del 5to Encuentro Amistoso respectivamente. Unas maravillas de alas que nos hacen sentir mucho agradecimiento a todos los pilotos extranjeros que hicieron esas dos grandes donaciones de equipamiento a los pilotos cubanos. También agradecemos mucho a los colegas de la FCVL, personal del CAC y todos los implicados en hacer efectiva esas gestiones.

Ceux qui prévoient aller a Santiago,il est très important de:

1: apporter des choses,guants,casques bottes,lunettes,....

2: communiquer votre présence a un membre du club local parce qu'il y a des jours qu'il est interdit de voler(quand même rare)
mais super important pour l'existance et l'avenir du club.Ils communiqueront avec vous s'il y a restriction IMPORTANT.

3: respecter la zone de vol,le couloir permis se situe le long de la cordillière(ridge)de La gran Piedra vers la gauche jusqu'a la cathédrale del Cobre vers la droite.
Jamais en arrière, jamais vers la ville de Stgo.

4: ammenez des choses...

5: Si vous vous trouvez bas en vol, soyez sur de pouvoir vous rapprocher de l'attéro officiel.

les champs en face du deco font tous parti du terrain de la prison, si vous y attérissez vous allez perdre votre journée complète a l'immigration de Santiago.Preuve de votre hebergement et passeport conseillé.

6: apportez un de vos x parapentes et donnez-le..

7: bien refermer les clotures en revenant de l'attéro.(pas de vehicules) Si vous avez des problèmes de transport appelez-moi,Lorgio ci-haut
est chauffeur de mini van officiel il connait tout les site de Cuba et est l'ex président de la fed Cubaine de vol Libre. S'il y en a qui prévoient dormir a Stgo je connais passablement de places pour vous loger, déjeuner inclus pour 25 30$ (15 min du déco) Musique Salsa galeries d'art,réalité Cubaine.dépaisement assuré.

À peine rentré des Alpes je commence déjà à penser au prochain voyage à Santiago de Cuba prévu fin janvier 2011.

Pour l’heure le forfait tout inclus (avion, hôtel, bouffe, alcool) 7 jours au Costa Morena est de 485$ (l’an dernier c’était 450$)
A cela il faut prévoir le déplacement vers le site de vol par taxi (van 7 passagers) 100$ allé retour…
Ce n’est pas impossible de choisir un autre hôtel plus près du site mais plus chère et sans plage mais avec des frais de taxi moins élevé…

Beaucoup d’entre vous sembliez intéressé a y aller la prochaine fois.

Alors je suis en mode sondage pour connaitre le nombre de personne réellement intéressé et disponible du 27 janvier au 3 février 2011. (Date auquel les tarifs du moment sont les moins chère)

Janvier....l'enfer glacé où tous nos parapentistes sont en hibernation profonde ou à l'urgence avec des doigs bleus et les orteils glacés.... On peut pas y faire grand chose mais il existe une solution!
